Melissa’s LD Story

Melissa

Aurora, Colorado, US

Hello my name is Melissa and I am 13 years old and I had LD at an early age.

A learning disability is a disorder that can make learning hard. People like me with LD are intelligent, but we have a hard time understanding some of the information that we hear and getting our thoughts out or on paper.

In my school, people with LD may do very well in school in some subjects and very poorly in others. Most of my weaknesses come from math. Math is very hard for me. I have a really hard time in math I had bad grades but I started staying after school and got the help that I needed. Then my F in math got to a B+. But then I found out I had LD and I got so much help. This is called Advocating.

An advocate is a person who speaks or writes in support of something. I really hate writing (like right now). I am really bored and I want to go to sleep.

But anyways, I try really hard in school and I do my best and I have A’s and B’s. I think that is okay to have LD because you could still learn but in a different way.
